The "Manifesting Generator"
The appearance of the “manifesting generator” in the early 2000s in Ra’s growing catechism made Zeno and me laugh, and sigh, because that was exactly what we had predicted when he introduced his “four types” in May 1997: You bet that he will have to add more “types” or sub-“types” as time goes by, because they’re so woefully inadequate to contain the infinite uniqueness the body graph actually shows.
Besides the emerging, sprawling world of sub-“projectors” to confine their vast variety, the “manifesting generator” is a prime example of his attempts to force uniqueness into his cookie-cutter concoctions. And we always wondered how something so glaringly wrong was able to get a hold in so many people.
Original mechanics: If a motor (Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart) is connected by contiguous definition to the Throat, it’s a design to do. All others are designs to wait.
Then Ra invented the “generator” caste for the person who has the Sacral defined. And according to his new “strategies,” the “generator’s” proper behavior is “to wait to respond.” He overlooked that the Sacral motor can be connected to the Throat as well, and I’m sure somebody complained about the discrepancy, which then prompted his creation of a fifth “type,” the “manifesting generator,” who is now supposed to wait, too, although this contradicts the mechanics.

As I have argued previously, the “generator” all by itself already was an arbitrary choice, because how come a defined Sacral deserves its own “type” but not any other defined center? In addition, limiting responding to a defined Sacral center is a gimmick that doesn’t jibe with any evidence I have ever come across. Responding is a function not limited to the Sacral, but naturally occurring in all of nature, in designs of any “type.” Even the blind can see that. The addition of the “manifesting generator” is even more arbitrary. You wouldn’t say that a Heart defined to the Throat is a “manifesting projector,” now, would you. But you do with the Sacral?
The Sacral is the primal imperative to preserve the species, a driving force, a motor. If this connects to the Throat, either directly or indirectly by contiguous definition, there is doing, no question about it.
If you have such a definition, you know this. Honestly. You have been living your design since birth, after all. You are intelligent. You know. Yet you let yourself be seduced to think that something is wrong with you, as you're having a hard time to “wait for response.” You feel guilt and inadequacy. Waiting is impossible. Torture. Echoes of your childhood. Sit still! You twist yourself to conform. It’s insane. Telling you that you have “to wait to respond” is a crime against your humanity. It’s the classic strategy of any religion, any cult: Declare the natural a sin, generate guilt, and then offer salvation in the folds of belief. Welcome to Jovianism.
At best, Ra’s “strategy” is advice and Zeno and I thought we were in agreement with him in the early years that Human Design does not deliver advice, but just describes the mechanics visible in the body graph and let people come to their own conclusions. (“I’m just a mechanic!” – Yeah, yeah, liar!) Although we weren’t exactly surprised, we were disappointed when he started not only issuing, but codifying advice with his “strategies.” It was the murder by Ra of the experiential science of Human Design.
The “Manifesting Generator” is one of the absurdities his caste system created, just like that people without definition supposedly have no “inner authority.” Even split definitions, where for example one definition connects the Solar Plexus (a motor) to the Throat (= To do) and another defines the Sacral, but doesn’t connect to the Throat (= To wait), is considered a “manifesting generator,” which is ridiculous. That “generator” doesn’t “manifest,” after all, it just “generates,” to use the Jovian mythological language. If anything “manifests,” it's the Solar Plexus that does, not the Sacral. In original Human Design, Zen Human Design, this is simply a Split definition, to do, with an aspect to wait. That makes sense and is congruent with reality.

And so Jovianism has confused scores of people since its inception in 1997 and continues to do so. What a waste of close to three decades that could have been used for honest research, squandered to flatter the narcissism of a man unable to ever admit being wrong.

Zen Human Design is Human Design from the ground up. It starts with learning to read the body graph by applying the basic mechanics, compare with your life experience and come to your own conclusions.
The conclusions to which Ra came, which unfortunately are widely considered real Human Design, are not helpful in learning to read the body graph yourself. They set blinders on your perspective and make it impossible to even see the basic mechanics and what they imply. It is crucial that you’re able, or at least sincerely try, to purge your mind of those conclusions, all those assumptions, presumptions and pretenses, like “type,” “authority,” “strategy,” and “purpose.” Discover what is, not what a dead man thought should be. Be as intelligent as you are. If you’re not willing to do that, don’t waste your time with Zen.

With a clean slate, I recommend that you start from scratch and take Zeno’s very first class The Body Graph. Even if you believe you know all this already, swallow your pride and go over the material once or twice more, carefully, step by step, without blinders. You’ll be surprised.

Turn that surprise into momentum by booking a session with me now. This is currently the only way I teach. You’re likely to be inspired and awed. You had no idea how radically different and useful Human Design can be.
At this point, you’ll find yourself alone in a world that busily pretends that Ra’s conclusions are God’s word. If you’re unlucky, you’ll slide back into the swamp, because, how can so many online “friends” and testimonies of salvation be wrong? Sorry about this, but it was worth a try. If you’re lucky, you’ll persist and dig deeper, discover more every day, and realize how the reality of your life is reflected in your body graph.

If you’re one of the lucky ones, it’s time to deepen your knowledge with what Zeno considered her flagship class, Centers, Conditioning & Consciousness. This should take some time. Be thorough and patient with yourself. Look at your design again and again and apply what you learn. Always go back to the basic mechanics. It’s an upward spiral: by the next round your horizon has expanded and the same basic mechanics appear in fresh perspective. And on and on. Again, and again.

Have a Follow Up session with me. We’ll summarize how all you have learned fits with the basics, fill in some blanks, apply practically, and set you on the path to actually understand all the following classes in Zeno’s program, if you desire to continue. Even without further studies you’re well set to observe your life and relationships with dramatically more awareness at this point. There is no end to that depth.
